X-pire! GmbH

X-pire! GmbH was established as a spin off company of Saarland University and specializes in the research and development of security technologies for data protection, currently with focus on the digital expiry date X-pire!. X-pire! Gmbh was established by Professor Michael Backes (Chair for IT Security and Cryptography of Saarland University) and Stefan Lorenz (co-developer of the basic concept of X-pire!).

The initiator

Michael Backes has the Chair for Information Security and Cryptography at Saarland University and is also a Max-Planck Fellow of the Max-Planck Institute for Software Systems. He joined the faculty of Saarland University in 2005 at the age of 26 years. He is author of more than 100 scientific publications and has received several scientific awards including the Microsoft Privacy Enhancing Technology Award, the IBM Faculty Award and an ERC starting grant. In 2009 the MIT Technology Review named him one of the world’s top 35 researchers under the age of 35, and Capital Magazine named him Germany’s best researcher under 40. Computerwoche recently named him one of Germany’s 50 most important IT figures.

Management

 

Marc Huffer

Marc Huffer has a degree in business administration and more than 10 years experience in the IT sector. Whilst working as manager at IDS Scheer AG, he assumed responsibility for various sales orientated divisions including business development, international sales, partner management and marketing.

Stefan Lorenz

As a former student of Prof. Backes, Stefan Lorenz has many years of experience in the implementation of solutions in cryptography and information security. A further area of specialization of his training includes the software development process.

Since 17.01. X-pire! GmbH is part of the Scheer Group GmbH where it complements the innovative potential of the network and strives for further developments, particularly in information security (more information).
